Question:

Are these kits the same or is there a difference? My dad has a 2002 dodge 2500 with a Reese 18k hitch. He just got a new 2012 Ram 2500 and we need to put his Reese in it. Are the frame brackets the same on these 2 years? We were told that they are at the local RV store but I think they used the 2002 1500 numbers. The 2002 2500 is still the 2nd gen body style.

A 2012 Dodge Ram 2500 short or long bed will use Reese installation kit # RP50140-58 that you have referenced. A 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 does NOT use the same installation kit so the brackets will be different.

You can use the same rails but you will need to replace the brackets using # RP50140. And I also recommend replacing the 10 bolt hardware kit that attaches the rails to the brackets using kit # RP58430.
