Troubleshooting Older Version Of The Malone Downloader That Has A Stuck Knob And Bar

Question:

I cannot disengage the knob/teeth mechanism and it is stuck in the horizontal position. How do I fix this situation?

It sounds like you have the older version of the Malone DownLoader Kayak Carrier with Tie-Downs # MPG114MD which use to come with knobs instead of the current lever. I did some research and was not able to find anything related to knob failure. I would try pushing in on the knob slightly (not hard enough to break it) and try to get the knob to spin so that the bar will be free to move. Make sure the knob is tight so that it makes contact with the teeth. If this still doesn't work then let me know and I will contact Malone to verify if there is anything else you can try, but it doesn't look like Malone makes a replacement knob for this older style carrier.

I recommend looking into the newer updated version of the Malone DownLoader. This just uses a simple lever to lock the bar in place instead of the knob you are currently using. I attached a demonstration video.
