Curt wireless brake controller on 2018 BMW X5d MSport

Question:
As I understand it the BMW X5 has a proportional braking system. Had to install a dealer specific controller on an earlier X5. Will this work right out of the box? Using stealth hitch FYI so will run a short cable to mount the unit horizontally on the trailer hitch so it does not hang straight down nearly to the ground...

Expert Reply:
As long as your vehicle has a fully functional 7-way trailer connector with an active 12-v feed to the pin in the 1:00 position, the Curt # C51180 Echo wireless brake controller would work fine for you right out of the box. The controller has a triple-axis accelerometer, so it does NOT need to be installed in any particular orientation so it'll work just fine installing it in the manner you mentioned.
I've linked to a video that explains how the Echo works.
