What Larger Tire Upgrades do You Recommend for My 4x8 Trailer?

Updated 03/10/2022 | Published 08/12/2021

Question:

Hi, I'm building a tear on my 4x8 trailer. What upgrade tires would you recommend? I like to be bigger tires for going dirt road, my axel can handle up to 1400lbs. I currently have 4.80-10 on the trailer and would like to get a tire/wheel combo.

Thanks so much for your pictures. From the looks of the photos, it looks like you have wheels with a bolt pattern of 4 on 4".

To upgrade your tires to get the maximum capacity available on your 1,400 pound 4x8 trailer with 4.80-10 wheels, a great choice is the Kenda 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12" White Wheel - 4 on 4 - Load Range C # AM30780. Each individual wheel has a 1,250 pound weight capacity and the individual tires have a weight rating of 1,045 when inflated to 80 psi.

Since you have fenders, it is important to note that you may have to adjust them or buy a new set that accommodates the new tires. For a new set, a great choice is the Fulton Single Axle # F008550.
