Tuson Electronic Sway Control Experiencing Tail Wag At Speeds Over 65 MPH On 2015 Toyota Tundra
Published 08/11/2021 >
Question:
Hi. I have a new Safari Condo Alto 2114 which is 21’, weighs 3400 fully loaded. Towing with a Toyota Tundra. Have dealer installed Tuson Sway control, which has the indicator light not visible from my driver mirror. Truck and trailer sit level. I have a tongue scale and have verified my tongue weight is within 10-15 of trailer weight. My intent was to not have a weight distribution hitch as it is not needed for the weight. Problem: at high speed 65+, I experience a “tail wag” when make a quick steering adjustment or catch some side wind. It’s not a huge thing sway, but it is very unnerving. Slowing down to 60 stops it. Question 1: is this normal when using the Tuson, or should it be correct this kind of minor sway Question 2: what options do you have to help this situation short of putting on a full WD setup?

I have heard of similar issues and the culprit is often that the Trailer Sway Control System on your 2015 Toyota Tundra is fighting the Tuson Asymmetric Sway Control # 335TSC-1000 that you have on your Safari Condo Alto 2114. This is not normal and your unnerving feeling is completely justified. The Tuson system is attempting to send power to each side of your trailer individually and the Tundra is wanting to send power to both sides to attempt to correct the sway.
You will have to turn off the vehicle stability system to turn off the trailer sway control so you would also lose the vehicle stability control as well as the traction control by pushing the stability control button of the dash of your Tundra to the off position.
