Updated 09/03/2024 | Published 08/08/2021

Question:

Our step retracts every time we open and close the door . Step switch on or off , key on or off . A rv tech told me to change this module after he tested it and said it always had power ? Here is a picture of the unit and our motorhome is a 2019 Newmar.

Thanks for all of the information!

I reached out to my contact at Kwikee and he agrees that the issue you are having is more than likely the control unit. You can test this to be sure by using a circuit tester # PTW2993 and finding the two wire harness running from the control unit and the motor. One of the wires should be red, and should only have power when the motor is activated. If you find that you have constant power, or no power, then the issue is the control unit and you will need to replace it with the # LC363985.

If you find the control unit tests properly, then the issue is the magnetic door sensor and it will need to be replaced with the # LC369299.

I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.

What if you have no power in any wire on the vehicle side of the 4-wire connector which is right before the step controller? I have power 13.4v at the 25 amp Ext Step terminal in the Shore Power/Transfer Switch Bay.

@Zac Then you're going to have to trace the harness to the battery, and see where power stops. If there's no power getting to the controller, then the fuse is blown, or a wire is broken somewhere before the controller.
