You can definitely replace your current brakes with a disk brake set up. However, there are a few things that will need to be checked and upgraded to accomplish this task.
First, you will need to determine which inner and outer bearings fit your spindle. As an example, the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit - 10" Hub/Rotor - 5 on 4-1/2 - Dacromet - 3,500 lbs # K2HR35D is designed to fit spindles with an # L68149 inner bearing and # L44649 outer bearing on a 3,500 pound axle. This will also use a 5 on 4 1/2 bolt pattern, so this will need to double checked as well.
From there, you will need to upgrade your actuator to one that will get the disc brakes working. The correct one will depend on which size ball you need and if you have a surge style actuator or an electric over hydraulic set up.
The Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator w/ Electric Lockout - Disc - Multi-Fit Ball - Bolt On - 6,000 lbs # T4745720, as an example, is designed to fit 1-7/8", 2" and 50-mm balls. The electric reverse lockout lets you back up without actuating trailer brakes, making it a nice option.
If you use an electric over hydraulic set up, the ball size will not matter. All you will need to do is upgrade your actuator with something like the Dexter DX Series Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Actuator for Disc Brakes - 1,600 psi # K71-651. This will also work with single, tandem, and triple-axle trailers.
