After confirming with Draw-Tite, I can tell you the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 36284 is a compatible fit for your 2000 Subaru Legacy Wagon. It is a custom fit for your vehicle and features bolt-on installation with no welding required. It is a 1-1/4-inch trailer hitch with a max GTW of 3500 lbs and a max tongue weight of 300 lbs.
I have provided a link to the installation instructions for this hitch as well as a video showing a typical installation.
If you need a drawbar for this hitch, I recommend # 36053. If you need hitch balls, you might go with the 2-inch # 19258 or the 1-7/8-inch # 19256. If you need a pin and clip for your hitch and drawbar, I recommend # PC3.
If you plan to tow a trailer with this hitch, you will need wiring. I recommend the Curt Trailer Wiring Harness # 56146KIT. It adapts separate turn and stop lights (3-wire system) to a 2-wire system on a trailer and nearly eliminates the draw on your vehicles taillight circuit. I have provided links to the installation instructions and a video showing the typical installation.
