The double dash (- -) on the Curt TriFlex Trailer Brake Controller # C24VV indicates that there is a power or ground wire issue. The first thing to check will be the wiring connectors both to the brake controller and the vehicle. Be sure that there is not any corrosion or damage to any of the connectors.
Next you will want to check the fuse in the engine compartment on your 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. According to the owners manual it is in the # 1 slot.
If you find that all the connections are good and the fuse is good then you either have a short in the wiring harness or damage to the wiring. You can trace the wiring for any visible damage and also bench test the controller to ensure the controller isn't internally damaged.
To bench test you will need to remove the brake controller and connect it to a 12 volt battery and connect to a 1156 Incandescent bulb # DI49VR. The black wire on the controller will run to the 12 volt positive. The white wire to the 12 volt negative. The blue wire will go to the 1156 bulb and the negative of the bulb to the battery ground. At this time when you activate the brake with the manual control the light bulb should illuminate with the power level set to max. You can also touch the red wire to the battery positive to test the brake signal, it should also illuminate the bulb.
