Question:
I am considering purchasing a Roofnest car top Falcon model clamshell rooftop tent that weighs 140 lbs. Two occupants and light gear inside the tent would add no more than another 300 pounds. My vehicle is a 2017 Acura MDX with a standard sunroof but otherwise having a naked roof. It appears that your Rhino kit Part Numbers: RB1375B-2, RRRLKHD, DK400 is sufficient for safely mounting this tent to the vehicle. Is this kit all that is required? I am ready to make a purchase as soon as I confirm that the Roofnest is able to deliver their tent to me in Arizona within the next two weeks. Thank you you have a very informative web site.

We can get your 2017 Acura MDX with a naked roof set up with a roof rack, though I recommend going a different route than the HD bars you asked about. The reason for that is these are uniquely large square bars, much larger than standard square crossbars, and don't offer additional capacity. Going with an aero roof rack from Rhino-Rack will still give you the same 165 lb dynamic capacity, will be much quieter, and allow you to use the rack for other things if you'd like. The HD bars often require adapters or very specific gear that can mount.
So instead, I highly recommend going with the Rhino-Rack Vortex crossbar roof rack for your 2017 Acura MDX, which will fit with the following parts:
- Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars # RRVA137B-2
- Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Legs for Vortex Aero Crossbars # RRRLKVA
- Custom DK Fit Kit # DK400
I have added a link below to a video review for you to check out as well if you'd like to take a look.
