Question:

I have a 16s skybox and one side lock will not open. I need to repair now, so waiting for new handles Y8880348 is not an option since these are on back order until February 2022. Would the alternative be to purchase a new lock core and key? If so what would be the equivalent that matches my skybox 16s model # 8007178?

If you know your lock core model number you will be able to get a replacement lock core and key. The Yakima key has a code written on it and that is the code for your replacement lock core and key. If you cannot see the model number on your key you will have an additional step. You will have to remove the core from your Skybox 16 since the code is on the side of the lock core. In order to remove the lock core you will need the key to your lock and a Replacement Control Key for Yakima Same Key System, part # Y8007835. When your lock core is in the unlocked position you can remove it with this Control Key.

The replacement lock core part is Replacement SKS Lock Core for Yakima Racks and Carriers, part # Y8771-AXXX. The code on your lock core replaces the XXX in the part number. For example, if you have Yakima lock core A153 your replacement part would be Y8771-A153.

Your Replacement Key for Yakima Racks and Carriers, part # Y8772-AXXX, would follow the same format. You will get one lock core and one key. If you need more you will have to change the quantity.
