Question:
I have a GMC Sierra 1500 2wd standard cab with a V6. It does not have a tow package. I am interested in the e98860 and the HM40975. Can I use the HM40975 without splicing into my existing wiring?

The etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98860 is a confirmed fit for all 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 models. The 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket # HM40975 is also confirmed to fit the 2014 Sierra 1500 with factory 7-way. You must have a factory 7-way for this to work. The installation of the # HM40975 does not require any splicing of wires. The connector plugs in to the factory wiring harness.
If your truck did not come with a factory connector you will need that as well. The # C59236 will give you the initial 4-way connection and the # ETBC7 Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat will give you everything you need to upgrade it to a 7-way. This would not fit in factory opening in your bumper but is the only solution if there is not an existing connection. You would not need # HM40975 either since this has the 4-way and 7-way connection. If you still wanted to use the # HM40975 with this configuration it would require splicing wires.
I have attached an installation video for your reference.
