Why Would Curt Echo Mobile Brake Controller Not Work with 2020 Ford Ranger

Question:

I was told by Ford that I have a brake control module on the truck, but they could not confirm this. It is the red box in the schematic attached. Do you have any additional information? I bought a Curt Echo brake controller for my other tow vehicle and it does not appear to work with my Ranger, as the trailer brakes keep locking up. Any help would be appreciated.

The earlier versions of the Curt Echo Mobile brake controller # C51180 were known to not work well with the newer Ford Rangers like your 2020 model. If you can't get yours to work right I'd suspect it's because you have one of those models. Best suggestion I can make is to get a newer one that was updated to work with your vehicle.

Whether or not your Ranger has a factory brake controller module actually doesn't matter based on how this controller is designed. It is a self contained brake controller essentially and would work whether you had a module or not and if you did it would supersede it.
