Could CE Smith Spare Tire Carrier CE27202 Be Used Horizontally On Trailer Tongue?

Question:

Can this spare tire bracket be mounted horizontal on a cargo trailer tongue ? Rather than having the spare tire lie flat as shown in your video for this products, I would like to mount the bracket horizontal so the tire sits in and upright position. There is not enough room on the tongue for the the tire to lie flat ways, so I need it to stick out from the frame.

The CE Smith Spare Tire Carrier - Locking - Steel - 4-Lug and 5-Lug Wheels - 8-3/4" # CE27202 will fit horizontally as long as your tongue is not more than 3" tall, but I do not recommend it as it will have half of the tire sticking below the frame which could cause it to scrape on the ground.

Instead I recommend the CE Smith Offset Spare Trailer Tire Carrier - Galvanized Steel - 4- and 5-Lug Wheels # CE27310G which is offset so it will raise the tire further to give additional ground clearance. This carrier fits 1" - 3-1/2" wide x up to 4 " tall.
