Can 26 Inch Trailer Leaf Spring Be Replaced With 25-3/4 Inch Spring

Question:

I have a 26inch 4 stack double eye tandem axle trailer spring. Any chance i can replace them with a 25 3/4inch 5 leaf stack without relocating the hangers.

How did you measure the existing springs?

Because leaf springs will flatten out over time as they wear, the best way to get an accurate measurement of the eye-to-eye length is with the trailer up on jack stands so the axle hangs free. This should provide the 'true' length of the springs.

As far as replacing the 4 stack with a 5 stack goes, the number of leaves doesn't necessarily equate to an identical capacity, so in addition to the correct length you'll want to ensure your replacement springs carry the same capacity as the old ones. Assuming you took that 26 inch measurement with the trailer on the ground, and assuming that the replacement spring is of the same capacity, a 25-3/4 inch spring should work just fine for you.
