Can I Use A Hitch Extender For A Platform Bike Rack?

Our camper extends about a foot past the truckbed. We’re planning on using an extender from the hitch made of the same thick steel. Will the bike rack be ok at the end of a foot long extension? Thx

Expert Reply:
You can certainly use a hitch extender with the RockyMounts BackStage Bike Rack 2" Hitches # RKY10002. Just keep in mind that when using a hitch extender your receiver's capacity will be reduced by 50%, so you will want to make sure the 50% receiver capacity will still be enough to carry your bike rack and bikes. This bike rack weighs 60lbs empty.
For the extender you could go with the Hitch Extender # HE12 for a 14" extension or Hitch Extender # HE18 for an 18" extension. I attached a short demonstration video for you.
