Some tonneau covers will certainly fit both the 2012 and 2016 Silverado if they have the same size bed. For example, the Craftec Hatch-Style Tonneau Cover # 251138 fits both years as long as they have the 6-1/2 foot bed. I recommend going into our vehicle fit guide and enter in your 2012 Silverado information and find the cover that you have. Then you can enter in the 2016 Silverado to verify if that same cover shows up in the fit guide. Feel free to provide me with information on the bed cover that you have and I will be happy to verify fitment for you. If you don't know the exact model or part number, then you can try looking under the cover for it, it is usually towards the front near the cab.
