Question:
I would like to know if you have any previous experience with this controller used on a 2020 or 2021 Ford Explorer ST?

We haven't specifically used in on a 2020 or 2021, but as long as your Ford Explorer ST has a fully functional 7 way trailer plug then the Curt Echo # C51180 will work just fine. This is designed to be a universal controller that avoids any wiring required inside the vehicle, so it's a great solution if you don't want to mess with having a brake controller in the cabin of the vehicle or just want to be able to reliably tow with multiple vehicles; it'll also work with just about any vehicle with a 7 way-the only thing we don't recommend it for is on an RV because of the distance between the unit and your phone.
I've linked a review video of the Echo being used on a 2019 Ford Explorer for you to check out, which details a bit more on how it works.
