Why Can Dutton-Lainson Offset Spare Tire Carrier # DL22120 Only be Used with Wheels Up to 14 Inches

Question:

The description says it fits up to a 14 inch wheel. Why would it not work with a 15 inch wheel with 5 on 4.5 wheel pattern? Also, I cant find dimensions for the mount, even on Duttons website. Can you provide dimensions for the offset, rise, base mount plate size, etc.? I need to mount it on the side of my utility trailer and need to make sure that the lower base will work and it has enough offset to clear the top rail. Thanks for your help!

I checked into this with Dutton-Lainson, and the limitation on the # DL22120 offset spare tire has to do with the weight of the 15 inch tire and wheels, and not with the physical size.

The welds on the carrier are not rated to handle the weight of standard 15 inch trailer tire and wheels.

This carrier has a offset of 4-1/2 inches to the side and 4-3/4 upward. I pulled one from the warehouse and the wheel mounting plate measures 5-7/16 inches tall and 4 inches wide.
