Should 3500lb or 4400lb Braking Assemblies Be Used On 2011 Forest River Rockwood Roo 19 TT?

Question:

Hello, I was on your site today looking at electric brakes for my 2011 Rockwood Roo 19. When I put the model in, your system shows me the 10x2 1/4 4400lb axle brakes. But, if I change the model to the Roo 183 which is almost identical but with a bunk modification, it shows me a 3500lb axle brake. Will the 3,500lb ones work on my 19? The trailer itself is barely over 3,500lbs total and is dual axle so itd save a few hundred dollars to go with the 3,500lb ones.

It truly comes down to the axle rating on your axles. If your 2011 Forest River Rockwood Roo 19 has tandem 3500lb axles you will have no issues using the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 3,500 lbs # AKEBRK-35-SA, but if your trailer has tandem 4400lb axles you will want to stick with the # K23-478-479.

While the braking assemblies are the same size at 10" x 2-1/4", the braking force is different and using the lower rated brakes will decrease the braking performance of your trailer brakes.

You can verify which axles you have on your trailer by looking at the axle tag on the axles.
