Question:
Hi. Hope you can help. CURT recommends the Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2 Item # C93CR for my 2021 VW Atlas with a 2 receiver. Trailer I am hooking up needs 2 5/16. How does this work? Should I look at different, or additional components? Also, vehicle is unibody. Is this safe for frame. Seems like it would be. Finally, will I need to add airbags? Thanks!

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C93CR you were looking at is confirmed to fit your 2021 Volkswagen Atlas as long as it is the Cross Sport model.
To tow your trailer with a 2-5/16" coupler you will need a ball mount and a 2-5/16" hitch ball. To find the correct ball mount you will want to measure from the ground to the top inside edge of the trailer hitch receiver, and then from the ground to the bottom of the coupler on your trailer. The difference between these measurements is the drop or rise you will need. I included a link to a help article that goes over this measurement and a link to all of our 2" receiver ball mounts for you to take a look at.
For example the Curt Ball Mount for 2" Hitches - 1" Rise, 2-1/4" Drop - 7-5/8" Long - 7,500 lbs # C45030 is recommend for your Atlas and has a 1" rise or 2-1/4" drop. You would also need the 2-5/16" hitch ball # 63847, and hitch pin and clip # C21500.
The # C93CR has a 750lb tongue weight rating, and 5000lb trailer weight rating which is perfect for towing a trailer, but you will want to check the owner's manual of your Atlas to confirm its towing capacity and use the lower rating between the hitch and vehicle.
To tow your trailer you will also need a vehicle wiring harness # TK89FR if you have a Cross Sport, or # 118754 if you do not.
You can add the Firestone Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs - Rear Axle # F4175 on your Atlas if the trailer you are towing is heavy, but I recommend waiting to see if you experience severe suspension sag first as you may not need them.
I included videos for each of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
