Is 2021 GMC Sierra 3500 Compatible With Travel Trailer With Electric Over Hydraulic Brake System

Question:

So I bought a 2021 GMC Sierra 3500 hd truck to tow our newly ordered Keystone Montana Legacy equipped with factory Dexter disc brake system. Is this adapter going to be required to make the brake system work with the new truck/ trailer setup? I want to be prepared when I go to pickup our new RV. Thanks for your help.

If you're speaking of the OEM brake controller, then the ITBC on the 2021 GMC Sierra is compatible with electric over hydraulic braking systems such as the Dexter brake actuator used on your Keystone Montana Legacy. If your truck has the OEM brake controller, you won't need the # HBA-CAM adapter.

If you have an aftermarket brake controller that's electric over hydraulic compatible, you won't need the adapter either. The only scenario where you'd need the # HBA-CAM adapter would be needed is if your brake controller isn't electric over hydraulic compatible.

If you'd like an aftermarket brake controller that's electric over hydraulic compatible, I'd recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite, part # RED44FR. You'll also need the # 3064-P wiring adapter. You'd need to cut the black plug off the # 3064-P and splice it to the pigtail included with the # RED44FR Tow-Pro Elite controller. The wires could connect color for color.
