Question:
Hi I have a 2003 Subaru Forester and am looking into obtaining the correct items so I can transport a few bicycles via a tow hitch. I see on web site there are additional parts which not sure if needed such as: Item # e98942 etrailer Hitch Pin Alignment Collar for Bike Racks, Cargo Carriers, and Tow Bars - 2 Hitches. Can you perhaps please provide all the part numbers I will need to make this happen including a suggested bike rack that connects to the hitch which I am also considering. Once knowing all what needed I can then look into a purchase. Thank you in advance.

For your 2003 Subaru Forester I recommend using the Curt # C12038, which is a Class II hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver; this Curt hitch will have a bit more durable powder coating than the others, so it's going to stand up to wear and tear a little better. There are only hitches with 1-1/4" receiver available for your Forester, so you will need a bike rack that has a 1-1/4" shank.
For the bike rack I recommend using the Thule Doubletrack Pro Platform-Style 2 Bike Rack for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches # TH92BJ, which is a good quality rack at a nice price. The platform rack makes it easier to load up the bikes compared to a hanging rack and the rack can be folded up towards the rear of the vehicle when it's not in use. This rack also comes with locks to secure the bike and a locking hitch pin, so you won't need the Hitch Pin Alignment Collar # e98942.
I've linked some installation and review videos of these parts for you to have a look at. This would be everything you'd need to carry a bike rack on your Forester.
