Question:

Still looking at all the options for a e-bike rack for jeep and hopefully RV. Is there a single bike rack that could be expanding in the future to 2 bikes that would work on Jeep and RV? If only one it would be on jeep. Bike has fenders if that matters to any of the bike racks. Is the Yakima Swing Away a option to allow tail gate to fully open? Thanks

We do not offer a single bike rack that's expandable, I'm sorry to say.

The Yakima BackSwing swinging adapter, part # Y02483 would allow full access to the cargo area of your Jeep, but keep in mind that the adapter will lower the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by half. This means that if the tongue weight capacity of your hitch is 400 lbs (look at sticker on hitch for tongue weight capacity), using the adapter will lower that capacity to 200 lbs which means that the 35 lb weight of the adapter, the weight of the bike rack and the bikes couldn't exceed 200 lbs, or whatever half your hitch tongue weight capacity is. This adapter should not be used on a motorhome or travel trailer.

For a bike rack that can carry an e-bike with fenders that will work on both an RV and your Jeep, the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE, # HLY74FR would be an excellent choice if you have the necessary clearance. The rack can accommodate 2 bikes weighing up to 80 lbs each with tires up to 5 inches wide.

To determine if the rack will clear the spare tire, you'll need to measure rearward from the face of the hitch until the spare tire is cleared. If this distance is less than 7-1/2 inches, the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider will work great for you. The rack includes locks.

If that isn't enough clearance, the Swagman E-Spec, part # S94FR has a shank that measures 15-1/2 inches from the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the rack. In this case, you'd measure rearward from the center of the hitch pin hole in the receiver tube until you clear the spare tire. If this measurement is less than 15-1/2 inches, the E-Spec would be a excellent choice for bikes weighing up to 70 lbs each with tires up to 3 inches wide.
