This Swagman bike carrier, part # S64670, is intended for use on vehicles that have a trailer hitch receiver installed under the rear bumper. (It is a hitch-mount type bike carrier.) If your Altima does have a hitch receiver, such as the Curt Class 1 Hitch for the 2006 Nissan Altima, part # C11264, you can use this type of rack.
You can check underneath your rear bumper to see if there is a 1-1/4 inch square opening visible in the center; this would be the hitch receiver opening into which you would insert a hitch-mount bike carrier such as this Swagman # S64670. Please see the attached photo illustrating the Altima with a hitch receiver installed.
If your Altima sedan does not have a trailer hitch receiver you have the option of having one installed, or you can take a simpler path and choose a trunk-mount bike carrier such as one of those shown on the linked page. Trunk-mount bike carriers are available in several configurations and with a variety of features. You can choose either a hanging or platform style carrier; you can select a carrier that secures the bikes at their frames or at their wheels; and you can select carrying capacity of two or more bikes. If you wish you can select the characteristics you prefer using the filter options on the left side of the linked page.
An excellent carrier you may want to consider is the Thule OutWay Trunk Bike Racks for the 2006 Nissan Altima, part # TH45JV, which is a 2-bike trunk mount carrier. I have included a video about this product. This premium Thule carrier uses 2 rubber straps that simplifies installation process. It carries two bikes of a total weight of up to 66 pounds and a per-bike limit of 33 pounds.
I have included an FAQ article on selecting a bike carrier that might provide some insights to help you make your selection.
