Question:
how much pro[pane is used in a typical 10 minute shower
asked by: Michael K
Helpful Expert Reply:
A 20lb tank of propane will provide @ 432000 BTU hours and a water heater typically uses around 8800 BTU to heat a 6 gallon tank of water. If you used 1 tank of water for each showers, that's about 50 showers off a 20-lb propane tank. You'll need to compare your specific hot water heater and the size of your propane supply to get an exact number but it's generally around 2% of the total supply.
The Furrion Tankless Water Heater # FR48SR uses between 13,000 - 60,000 Btu per hour depending on the setting of the heater, so it's going to eat more propane but is designed to provide hot water on demand and consumption will generally be higher on a unit like this; the actual amount is going to vary.
