Question:
1.Tandem axle trailer 14000 capacity with 8000 axles. slipper spring setup with box type equalizer. What would cause front eye on springs to come unwound? employees swear they are not jumping curbs. 2. Equalizer box between springs does not sit horizontal when trailer is loaded. Hitch too high or load to fat back? 3. distance between tires seems to be too close 1 any recommendations?

Expert Reply:
The load or hitch height would not affect the front spring eye. For it to come unwound or loose its rounded shape there has to be some kind of rearward force pulling it out of round. This would shift the front axle effecting the equalizers and the tire spacing.
The best bet here is to replace that front set of slipper spring and inspect it regularly to determine when the damage has occurred. We carry a good selection of slipper springs like the 7-Leaf Slipper Spring w/ Hook End for 8,000-lb Trailer Axles 26-5/8" Long part # e37SR which may be the one you need.
