How Does Curt C51180 Echo Wireless Brake Controller Receive Brake Signal

Question:

what signal does this use to apply power to the brakes. I have a 7 pin connector and a 4 pin on my truck. My trailer has the 7 pin connector. I do not have any signal to the brakes from my truck via the 7 pin connector since it doesnt have the factory cluster. Does this require a brake signal or a brake light signal to control the brakes? I have a Canadian F150 with out the brake cluster controller.

You aren't getting any brake signal on the pin in the 5:00 position on your 7-way unless there's a brake controller already installed. The Curt # C51180 Echo picks up the brake lamp signal which tells the controller that the brakes are being applied, and at the same time the internal accelerometer is telling the unit how quickly and with how much force the brakes are being applied.

The Curt Echo, part # C51180 you'd looked at would be a plug-and-play installation on your F150, assuming that the 7-way trailer connector you speak of was factory installed. Simply plug the Echo into the 7-way, plug the trailer into the Echo and set up the system as outlined in the provided video and the included operating instructions.
