Question:

I have a 2008 Toyota 4 runner. In looking at the TH898 it appears I may need a raised roof rack since my factory rack does not exceed car width. Which raised roof rack would you recommend I purchase to fit 2 TH898’s?

This is correct; you won't be able to use the Thule Hullavator # TH898 on factory bars since they don't extend outside of the side rails, which is required to let the boat down off the roof. You would also need crossbars that are at least 60" long to fit 2 Hullavators on, since they require a minimum of 28.5".

To add a new roof rack system I recommend using the Thule Roof Rack system that uses parts # TH711500 (60" long) and # TH710401 (Evo Raised Side Rail Feet), which will allow you to use the Thule Hullavator # TH898. You could also get black Thule bars with part # TH711520, which might look better depending on what color your 4Runner is.
