Using a Trailer Wheel with Smaller Center Hole
Updated 10/06/2020 | Published 10/04/2020 >
Question:
Can you put a wheel with a smaller center hole but the same bolt pattern on without any issues
asked by: William M
Expert Reply:
The center hole (referred to as pilot hole) on a lug-centric wheel will work for a trailer hub as long as the pilot diameter is big enough to fit your hub and has the same bolt pattern. For the Kenda 4.80-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12" Wheel # AM30620 you were looking at, the pilot diameter is 2.84". Check out the video linked below for more details on this product.
For a hub-centric wheel, the pilot diameter of the wheel should match the hub because it uses the pilot hole to center the wheel on the hub. Most trailer wheels are not hub-centric.
