I have a 2012 Chevy Colorado LT and the tailgate does NOT have a factory lock cylinder or a open slot to install one. Is the electronically actuated interruption system on the PAL8160 compatible with a tailgate handle that does not lock to begin with or do I need to retrofit a new handle with a key locking mechanism first?

The Pop & Lock Custom Tailgate Lock part # PAL8160 is designed to work with keyed or non keyed handles. It will fit in to your existing handle to prevent it from opening.
The Switch Kit for Pop & Lock Power Tailgate Lock PAL9520 is a great option to add a switch to non powered door lock vehicles.
The Pop & Lock Custom Tailgate Lock with Handle part # PAL1700 is also a great option. It is a replacement handle for your current handle that offers a manual lock.
