Recommended Air Spring System for 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500

Updated 09/11/2020 | Published 09/09/2020

Question:

The issue I have is two totally different trailers. I have a popup camper that does squat my truck when there is a load in the bed, and an 18foot open car trailer. I can use stabilizer bars on the car trailer which I already have, but not on the popup. Im looking at either the Firestone F2609 or the Air Lift 57288. Can both the air bag setup and the stabilizer bars be used at the same time? If yes, what is the proper method for setting up the vehicle and trailer. What do you recommend for my towing needs? The tow vehicle is a 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500, RST, Z71. Thank you!

I personally prefer the Air Lift # AL57288 over the Firestone # F2609, because of the design of the air bags themselves. The Air Lift bags are constructed using roll plates where the spring meets the mounting bracket. This actually increases the capacity as well as helping to prevent the springs from being damaged.

You can use air springs along with a trailer that has weight distribution. Set the air springs as you'd typically have them, and then install and set up the weight distribution system according to instructions. As long as the amount of pressure in the air bags stays consistent, you won't need to adjust the weight distribution system each time, unless the weight carried on the trailer dramatically changes.

You might also want to consider a compressor system such as # AL25856 for the air springs. A compressor system will allow you to continually monitor the amount of pressure in the system and change it as necessary all from the cab of the truck.

I've linked to install videos for the air bag system and the compressor system. The compressor video is for a Dodge Ram, but since the compressor systems aren't vehicle specific the video should still be helfpful.
