Question:

I have two pedal assist Catrike trikes which weigh between 45-50 pounds each. The rack also weighs 50 pounds. Our travel trailer is a Riverside Retro 166, which is about 16 feet long and has a tongue weight of 260 pounds. We have tried the trikes on the back of the trailer, but had pretty severe sway issues, even with weight distribution an anti sway bars. Could we put the rack between our 2019 Toyota RAV4 Adventure and the Retro?

So long as you have the needed space between your RAV4 and travel trailer for your bike rack and trikes to fit you can use the Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount with 2" Receiver for Bike Racks and Cargo Carriers # D210.

There's no way for me to know how much room you have or if you have the needed space so you'd need to take some measurements, of course, and the # D210 extends 12-1/2" from the hitch pin hole to the hitch ball. This ball mount - when you are towing and using an accessory at the same time - has a tongue weight capacity of 750 lbs so your combined tongue weight of just over 400 lbs won't be an issue at all.

For a hitch ball with this ball mount you'll need one with a 1" diameter shank; if that's not something you have already, the correct hitch ball (depending on your trailer's coupler) is either 1-7/8" Hitch Ball # C40002 or 2" Hitch Ball # 63845.

The ball mount comes with a pin and clip but you can lock it to your hitch with the Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # e98880.
