The difference between Thule Hull-A-Port Kayak Carrier # TH849000 and # TH849000-97 is the mounting hardware. # TH849000 comes with hardware to secure it to any Thule crossbar via T-Slot and the other type of Thule Hull-A-Port # TH849000-97 is strictly for a square bar roof rack systems or crossbars with T-Slots.
If you were wanting to put the Thule Hull-A-Port # TH849000-97 on the roof of your 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon touring with flush rails you'll need the Thule SquareBar Evo Crossbars # TH712200, the Evo Flush Rail Feet for Thule Crossbars # TH710601 and the Fit Kit for Thule Evo Flush Roof Rack Feet # TH186047.
