Can this winch be anchored to a tree with a ratchet strap?

Dutton-Lainson doesn't recommend installing a hand winch in that manner. The # DL15440 3200 lb capacity hand winch is meant to be firmly bolted to its mounting surface, and installing it in any other way would present a safety hazard.
