I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.7L V6 WITHOUT tow package. The trailer I am purchasing has brakes so I need a wiring harness that will work. Should I purchase the 4 pin and also a 7 pin adapter? Please help as I dont have a clue which way to go. Also which trailer brake do you recommend single axle total travel trailer when loaded not exceeding 4000lbs?

The first wiring harness that will need to be installed on your 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.7L V6 is the Tow Ready T-One Wiring Harness, # 118394. This wiring harness will tee into the Jeeps tail light wiring directly behind the tail light assemblies. I have attached the installation instructions as well as an installation video on a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee for you to check out.
If the trailer has a 7-way blade style connector, then I would recommend using the Installation Kit, # ETBC7. The 4-way connector that I recommended will plug into the 4-way connector on the 7-way socket that is included with the kit and you will need to make a few more connections with the remaining wires. I have attached installation instructions as well as an installation video of the ETBC7 kit for you to check out. The vehicle in the video is different from your Jeep, but the video should give you a good idea on how to install the 7-way socket.
The next item that you will want to add is a brake controller to activate the brakes on the trailer. The brake controller that I would highly recommend is the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, # 90885. This is one of the easiest brake controllers to set up and use. I have included a link to the installation instructions for this brake controller and the installation is shown in the ETBC7 video that I referenced above.
