Recommended Parts to Flat Tow 2002 Chevy Tahoe

Updated 08/20/2020 | Published 08/18/2020

Question:

Need to flat tow Tahoe. Can you recommend the parts I need? Im thinking the RoadMaster Falcon 2 tow bar, but not sure which base plate goes best with it. I also need a recommendation on braking. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

We can get you all the parts needed to flat tow your 2002 Chevy Tahoe, and I'll make a list of what I recommend for you to make it easier to order.

- Base Plate Kit: Demco Classic Base Plate Kit # DM9518077
- Tow Bar: Demco Commander II Non-Binding Tow Bar # DM9511012
- Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267
- Supplemental Braking System: Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251
OR
- For a motorhome with air brakes: Demco SBS Air Force One Supplemental Braking System for Motorhomes with Air Brakes # SM99243

The Demco Classic Base Plates will give your Tahoe a clean look, as you can see in the accompanying photo of these base plates a customer sent in. And while you mentioned the Falcon 2 tow bar, I like the Commander tow bar more because it has integrated safety cables and an adjustable tilting head so a high-low adapter won't be needed. Having these features on a tow bar means you won't have to purchase them separately, saving you additional expenses.

I really like the Flexo-Coil wiring kit because it is designed to prevent any type of electrical feedback, keeping your Tahoe's electrical system safe. As for the braking systems, both the Stay-IN-Play DUO as well as the Air Force One are strongly recommended because they are a one-time install which will never require any type of removal or reactivation, and because they give you braking proportional to that of your motorhome, resulting in much smoother braking than most systems.

I have also added links to instruction manuals ad video reviews for you to take a look at.
