Question:
Hello, Can I tow a 2500 Lb light trailer on this Class 2, 1 1/4 inch receiver hitch? Do I need to upgrade the hitch to a 2inch receiver? I have this on 2012 Subaru Outback.

The Curt class II hitch you had looked at, part # C12290 is rated for 3500 lbs towing, so it will handle the 2500 lb trailer without issue. From what I read online, the towing capacity of your Outback Wagon is between 2700 and 3000 lbs, so you'll be pretty close to that limit.
Because you'll be towing a weight that close to the vehicle's capacity, I'd recommend considering a transmission cooler like the # D13503. A transmission cooler is an inexpensive investment that will do a great job of protecting your transmission. As you can see in the linked installation video, an extra length of hose, part # D13003 is recommended.
If you don't already have the hitch, I'd recommend going with the Class III, part # 13390. A class III hitch with its 2 inch receiver tube will have many more options available for hitch mounted accessories.
