Are glass hatch hooks needed to install a Yakima kingjoe pro 3 on my 2018 Honda CrV hatchback?

According to Yakima, the hatch hooks aren't needed to install on your vehicle. The straps would install as shown in the provided photo.
The photo shows a different bike rack, but the principle is still the same.
