Question:

I have an 09 Jeep wrangler with a 3 inch lift and 33foot tires. On the rear of the vehicle I also have a 33 inch spare. I am trying mount a Kuat NV and be able to gain some access to the tailgate. Without an extension I can only mount one bike on the furthest rear tray and cannot fold the rack up into the fold up position. Using an 8 inch extension allows the front tray to be used and rack folded up but the door cannot be opened even folded all the way down as it is a swing out rear door. To shorten the story up can i use this adapter as a rather than a rise. I think if my measuremetns are correct I am looking for an adapter with a 6 inch extension oin to pin and a 4 inch . Would like to keep it as tight as possible but still gain everything I am looking for. Any help is appreciated.

Check out the Curt Dual 2 inch reciever # D-192. This provides close to a 4 inch drop and an 8 inch extension.

Another option you have is the Roadmaster High-Low Hitch Adapter # RM-048-4, this adapter has the same 4 inches of drop and has tongue weight capacity of 400 lbs tongue weight. The only issue is that it is a 12-1/4 inch extension.

The Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount # D210 would only provide you with 7-1/2 inches of extension which may not be enough for you.

You should note that any time you use a hitch extender/adapter you cut the tongue weight capacity of your hitch in half. You will need to check your hitch capacity, reduce it by 50% and then confirm that your setup is weighs less than this figure.
