Question:
Hello, I have a 2002 Chevy Silverado Z71 half ton extended cab. I do not believe it came with a factory tow package. I believe it may have had a 4 wire pig tail tucked above spare tire from the factory, which has been adapted to a round 7 pin, also has an aftermarket Reese hitch. So I can’t tell what was stock vs aftermarket. I would like your assistance in helping me and for a brake controller to it never had a vehicle with a brake controller before. I would like an all inclusive kit if you have one. Please let me know how I can better help you to determine the best kit for my application.

In 2001 and 2002 only the 2500 and 3500 models had the factory tow wiring. Your half ton will need to use the Hopkins Vehicle Wiring Harness with 7-Way RV-Style Connector # HM41145. This hardwires to the existing wires. You can use # 5506 for 12v power and brake controller wiring and circuit breakers. The other functions can be spliced into at the tail lights using Bonded 4 Wire - per foot # 16-4B-1 and butt connectors # 05731-5.
For your brake controller I recommend the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 3 Axles - Proportional # TK90160. This is a super reliable option that is easy to use and at a great price point. I've attached a few videos of these products and installations to assist.
