How far below the awning should the vehicle awning arm mounts be located?

Expert Reply:
There are two different Thule HideAway Awnings, part # TH490010 for a roof rack mount and part # TH490018 for a direct mount. The kits both come with all the brackets needed for installation so you don't have to make any separate purchases.
In regards to the awning support arm brackets, I checked with Thule but they don't offer a specific measurement for this. Therefore, I recommend mocking up the awning and just seeing which location works best for your needs. The reason for this is because each application can be different so an exact measurement could not be provided. That said, you do want the awning to angle down to allow rain to run off but not so much that you reduce the overhead clearance.
