Question:
Hi I recently purchased the proper Curt hitch for a 2010 Prius. The install was straight forward and only took 20 minutes. The question I had was when you do the install you take the tow hook eyelet off and you can not put it back on with this hitch so if I go off into a ditch in the winter how will they tow me out? You cant really tow the car out from the hitch itself as its only rated for 2,000lbs and the car weighs 3042lbs.

Expert Reply:
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11276 which is a fit for a 2010 Toyota Prius should be okay to be used to pull the car out of a ditch. The trailer hitch doesn't have to be rated for the weight of the vehicle since it's a rolling load. It uses the same attachment point as the factory tow hook does so there should be no issue. That said, you'd really have anther option. I recommend the Bulldog Winch 3/4" Shackle part # BDW20239 for vehicle recovery.
