Question:
Greets. My xterra already has a 4 pin towing connection. I need to add a 7 pin for my camper but need to keep the 4 pin for other things. Would it make sense to remove the existing 4 pin not factory installed, replace it with a 7 pin and use something like HM40920 at the end that supports both 4 and 7 pin? Would they both work at the same time for multiple tow items? What’s the best way to accomplish this? Thanks.

In order to convert the 4-way trailer connector on a 2013 Nissan Xterra to a 7-way trailer connector with 4-way you will want to use the Curt Trailer Connector Adapter part # C57672. The Curt adapter will plug into your existing 4-way and then provide connection points for both a 4 and 7-way trailer connector. In order to complete the installation, you will need to ground the white wire and tie off the yellow wire. If the trailer has brakes you will need to run the blue wire into the cab to a brake controller like the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller part # TK90160 and if the trailer has a battery that you need to charge then you will need o run the black wire to the tow vehicle's battery.
The Hopkins Endurance Multi-Tow Twist-Mount part # HM40920 is not a good option. In regards to using both connectors at the same time, this will be dependent on the power requirement of accessories and the power limits of the trailer wiring harness but it is possible.
