Question:
Hello, I know you’ve written about this in the past saying that as of April 2019 you had not installed a brake controller on the new Ranger. I am just wondering if you have since been able to do so. I can’t seem to find much information online about it. I was hoping for a plug and play situation but unfortunately I think there will be some wiring that needs to be done. My truck comes with the tow package. Thanks for your help!

In order to install a standard brake controller on a 2019 Ford Ranger such as the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller part # RED44FR which is a great option, you must cut and splice as there is not a port to plug into. That said, I do have an option that won't require any splicing into the vehicle and that is the Autowbrake Electric Brake Controller part # 3430001 which installs completely on the trailer. Therefore, not only will you not have to cut or splice into the vehicle's wiring but you also don't have to drill into the dash to mount one or sacrifice leg room.
