Question:
Hello, I bought a tow hitch from etrailer a few years back and it is rated for 10,000 lbs 5 inch . I have a dump trailer Big Tex that weighs 4K lbs and is rated to haul 14K lbs. I also tow a camper which is about 10K lbs. So, I see that you have a tow hitch rated for a higher weight capacity with a 7 inch . I just wondered what exactly makes it rated for more lbs? Is it thicker steel? I have a 2020 Chevy Silverado 3500 High Country. Would this 7 inch work for me? Also, it says that it does not come with hitch pins? Are those the thick pins running through the two circular cut outs? Thanks in advance for your information. I just want to be sure to have the right hitch for my towing needs.

In order to choose the correct Gen-Y Adjustable 2-Ball Mount you will need to know your rise and drop requirements. In order to find your rise and drop requirements you'll need to measure from the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube on the vehicle and then from the ground to the bottom of the trailer coupler on the trailer while level. The Gen-Y Adjustable 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers part # 325-GH-1623 that you were looking at offers up to a 6" rise/drop. If you need more than this, the Gen-Y Adjustable 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers part # 325-GH-624 is the next size up/down and it offers up to a 9" rise/drop. Please note, both options are intended for a trailer hitch with 2-1/2" receiver tube opening.
In regards to weight capacity, there are several factors that affect this but I can say the more rise/drop you have the lower your weight capacity you will have. Furthermore, the options with the larger 2-1/2" receiver tube opening will have far greater capacities than those for a 2" receiver tube opening because there is more shank material. The Gen-Y Adjustable 2-Ball Mounts come with the pins that hold the hitch balls but not the one that hold the ball mount inside the trailer hitch. For this, you'll need the etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock part # e98881.
