Question:

are you using a 1/2 diameter pin into the 5/8 hole for clearance

The Curt Class I and II Pin and Clip # C21410 is designed for use on 1-1/4 inch trailer hitches which do have 1/2 inch diameter hitch pin holes. The larger 5/8 inch hitch pins are used on the larger 2 inch hitch size. For that we have the part # C21510.
