Why does the capacity rating drop so significantly from 300 to 180 lbs off road when this rack is installed using the track adapter kit?

In a word: stability. The Tonneau Cover Adapter Kit for Yakima OverHaul HD and OutPost HD Truck Bed Ladder Racks # Y01155 adds an extra piece underneath the base of the OverHaul HD Ladder Rack # Y01151-58 & # Y01151-59 on your 2020 Ford F-150. Not only is there an extra piece for the rack to attach to, but it adds height as well, reducing the overall stability of the rack, which is why Yakima's engineers lower the rated capacity.
The OverHaul HD by itself has a 500 lb capacity on-road and 300 lb capacity off-road. When using the Tonneau Cover Adapter Kit # Y01155 that changes to a 300 lb capacity on-road and 180 lb capacity off-road. This kit will allow you to use a Retrax XR, Pace Edwards UltraGroove, or Ford Embark LS tonneau cover on your F-150.
There is only one difference between the two OverHaul HD racks, and both are designed to fit all bed sizes of a 2020 Ford F-150.
