2020 Grand Design Weight Distribution Recommendation

Updated 03/04/2020 | Published 03/02/2020

Question:

I just purchased a 2020 Grand Design Imagine 28bhs. Is this a good hitch? Im selling my old stern with my old camper. It had a a seperate sway control which had to be placed on and taken off the trailer. Im not familiar with this system. Will it provide adequate safe sway control for my 338inch camper?

To find the correct weight distribution system for your 2020 Grand Design Imagine you'll need to go buy the total tongue weight of the set up. This includes the tongue weight of the trailer and anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.

I looked up the specs for your Grand Design and the tongue weight is just over 600 lbs (but that doesn't account for added weight and any other gear). The Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control # FA94-00-1000 is designed for trailers with tongue weights from 600 lbs - 1,000 lbs right in line where yours is.

The sway control on the E2 uses steel-on-steel friction when the spring bars slide within the L-brackets that are mounted on the trailer tongue. It's very similar to other style sway control that's a separate component but this has the added convenience of being built in.

Another option and my favorite weight distribution system is the Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control # RP66084. The strait line has a tongue weight rating of 600 lbs - 1,200 lbs so just a bit more than the E2. The sway control is an active system, which means it's actively working to keep sway from happening not just dampening it after it happens.

Both kits require a hitch ball and are sold separately, for a 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # 19286, for a 2" Hitch Ball # A-90. When it comes time for you to install the weight distribution make sure that your trailer and truck are loaded how you're going to tow it so you can get accurate measurements.

I linked all the parts above, and included a few videos of the weight distribution systems for you to check out. Happy camping!
