Will Computer on 2016 Ram Rebel Need to Be Relfashed to Use Curt C51180 Echo Brake Controller
Published 02/29/2020 >
Question:
My question is on this wireless controller to be installed on my 16 Ram Rebel. I have the factory 4/7 pin connector but the truck did not come with a factory brake controller. I know to install the factory unit, you have to have the dealer program the truck computer to recognize the controller. Long story short, would this wireless unit work on my truck or would I need to run a 12 volt line to the plug to bypass the computer? Any info appreciated!

The Curt # C51180 Echo will work just fine on your Rebel , and the computer would not need to be re-flashed at the dealer in order for the Echo to operate. The Echo gets operates independently of the trailer brake circuit on the truck so it'll work great for you right out of the box. As long as the 12v power feed circuit on the vehicle is active (it should be) and you have a smart phone with a recent OS, the controller will work great for you.
I've linked you to a video that explains how the controller works in more detail.
